What is UHMWPE?

UHMWPE, Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, is known as a high-tech material widely used in climbing, sailing, and hiking for its unbeatable properties. UHMWPE is branded as Dyneema, Spectra, and other trade names by different companies. They share almost the same characteristics.

  • Lightweight. It's at present the best way to reduce weight when going outdoors.
    Yield high strength. 15 times stronger than steel on the same weight basis.
    Very low coefficient of friction and is self-lubricating.
  • High abrasion resistance. You can practically feel that when you try to cut off UHMWPE ropes or webbing.
